Volunteer for Operation Jairo: Sea Shepherd’s 2015 Sea Turtle Defense Campaign

Thank you for your interest in participating as a land-based volunteer for our 2015 turtle protection campaign, Operation Jairo.

Sea Shepherd is now accepting applications for dedicated and passionate volunteers in all three campaign locations: Florida, Honduras and Costa Rica.

    Honduras and Costa Rica:

At least 18 years of age
Able to commit to participating in the campaign for a period of one week or longer

Applicants are responsible for all travel costs. Food will be provided. Housing will be selected by Sea Shepherd, but volunteers may be responsible for their housing cost. Applicants should plan for this expense in the event that those costs are not covered.

    Florida:

At least 18 years of age
Able to commit to participating in the campaign for a period of two weeks or longer

Applicants are responsible for all travel costs. Food will be provided. Housing will be selected by Sea Shepherd, but volunteers may be responsible for their housing cost. Applicants should plan for this expense in the event that those costs are not covered.

(Please note for Florida, there is a questionnaire in addition to the volunteer application – see below)

For all three locations, Sea Shepherd is also seeking volunteers with training and/or a professional background in videography and photography to assist with campaign media production, and those who are fluent in Spanish.

Please note that patrols of the beaches will require a certain level of physical fitness needed for long hours of extensive walking through the sand. They will also require eight (8) hour shifts, working from late at night into the wee hours of the morning.
    Applying for Operation Jairo

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the Land Crew Campaign application / Aplicación De Voluntariado Para Campañas En Tierra.

For the Florida location, there is a required additional questionnaire.

Once you have printed and completed the application, please email it to: groundcrew@seashepherd.org, along with proof of payment for the $100 application donation fee. (Crew members, Onshore Volunteers and previous applicants who have already paid an application fee, will have their fee waived. However a new application is still needed for applicants who would like to be considered for Operation Jairo, regardless of their previous experience with Sea Shepherd.)

In your email, please indicate which campaign you are interested in participating and what time block you will be able to fill for that campaign (please see schedule for campaign needs below).

Once your application is received and processed, you will be contacted by David Hance, Sea Shepherd Campaign Coordinator, who will schedule you for a Skype interview.
