Trump Administration’s Executive “Review” is Just the Prelude to Selling Off Our Monuments
On April 26th, President Trump signed an executive order kicking off a “review” designed to eliminate or shrink National Monuments that have been protected by our Presidents in recent decades. This “executive review” directly affects such places as Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah, as well as 25 other national monument designations spanning coral reefs to giant sequoias. What’s worse, the executive order is so broad that it puts monuments of all size at risk.

The sweeping review will include all monuments created since 1996 that are over 100,000 acres or where the Secretary determines the designation was made with insufficient input. In short, the executive order is an attempt to undermine one of the nation’s most important conservation tools.

An attack on our national monuments is an attack on all of America’s parks, public lands, and oceans. President Trump is taking the unpopular step of requesting a review of past national monument designations, putting America’s heritage at risk.
